A Breakfast Workshop was recently held at the Met Office headquarters in Exeter to launch the introduction of the Green Accord. The Met Office has adopted the Green Accord to ensure it's suppliers have sustainable working practices in place and can demonstrate their green credentials.
The workshop style event covered the many benefits of the Green Accord scheme and an insight into the energy saving features installed at the Met Office, demonstrating how serious the Met Office is about finding ways in which it can lessen environmental impact.
Environmental Experts, Zero2050, exclusive partner of the Green Accord, provided an opportunity to find out how the Green Accord can bring business benefit. Tom Kennard of Zero2050 gave examples of practical changes brought about by the introduction of the Green Accord, and how sustainable working practices can typically bring a saving on utilities, waste and transport costs.
Darren Ball, Head of Procurement, summed up the event, explaining how the Met Office will be working with local suppliers, initially in the construction industry, to lessen environmental impact and improve sustainability.
